The retina is often compared to “the film in a camera,” a paper-thin tissue that lines the back of the eye and sends visual signals to the brain. In the middle of the retina is a highly specialized area called the macula. The macula is made up of millions of light-sensing cells that collectively produce central vision.

The retina is subject to a wide range of diseases, some of which can severely threaten your vision. If you are suffering from retinal issues such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachments or flashes and floaters, the experienced retinal surgeons at Precision Eye Care and Albemarle Eye Center are happy to diagnose and treat your condition or provide a second opinion.
