Surgery is the only way a cataract can be treated. There are no medications, dietary supplements or exercise that have been shown to prevent or cure cataracts. Cataract surgery is an outpatient procedure performed at the hospital and usually requires just a few hours of your time from start to finish. Dr. Swarup, Albemarle Eye Center / Precision Eye Care’s internationally renowned cataract surgeon, can usually perform the LenSx procedure in 6-8 minutes. His exceptional credits include certification to implant a myriad of Advanced Technology Intraocular lenses.
The LenSx® femtosecond laser is used to make an incision rather than an actual blade. After, Dr. Swarup will use the computer assisted laser system to provide the most precise and accurate circular opening (capsulorhexis). This portion of the procedure is critical to excellent vision results. After the circular opening is made, the LenSx® system will aid Dr. Swarup in lens fragmentation. After lens fragmentation, the cataract is removed and an IOL (intraocular lens) will placed into the eye.
Albemarle Eye Center / Precision Eye Care are proud to be the first ophthalmology practice in this area to offer patients several exciting vision correction choices which may reduce or eliminate the need for eyeglasses after cataract surgery.
With cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens must be removed from the eye. After that, in most cases a permanent intraocular lens (IOL) implant replaces the natural lens to restore focusing power. The exciting news is that we offer the most advanced technology intraocular lenses (ATIOLS), also known as premium lenses, which further enhance post-operative visual outcomes.
