Barry F. Atlas, MD is an American Board Certified Ophthalmologist. He earned his undergraduate degree, graduating with high honors from the University of Illinois. He received his MD degree from the prestigious University of Chicago, one of the best known medical institutions in the world. After completing his Ophthalmology residency at Northwestern University, he was selected to receive specialized fellowship training at the University of Connecticut, under the expertise of Dr. Daniel Taylor. He received rigorous training in cataract, lens implant, corneal and vision correction surgery.
Dr. Atlas was a founding member of The Tidewater Eye Center in 1983. He is a member of the American Board of Ophthalmologists, the American Academy of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, American College of Eye Surgeons, and the Medical Society of Virginia. He was an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Eastern Virginia School of Medicine. He has published studies on cataract surgery. He introduced many of the cataract and laser procedures done today in the Tidewater area.
Dr. Atlas loves to travel, ride his bicycle, hike, specialty coffees and anything sports related to his alma mater, University of Illinois.
